Client: Talus

Talus Expedition Gear is Boise’s one-stop shop for overlanding and camping gear. They offer customers custom rooftop tents and camp kitchen setups among other unique outdoor adventure products. Their retail space is very hands-on and invites customers to see and feel the products and setups in person.

For this project, Talus wanted to add an Idaho nature scene to their showroom in order to make their showroom scene more realistic and applicable to the outdoors. Through the process of working with them, I helped design mockups, brainstorm installation logistics, and paint the final product. This project was one of the more creatively engaging experiences I have ever been a part of.

The Process

The size of the wall and the depth of scenery that needed to be conveyed were large, and designing the initial digital mock-ups for a painted piece this detailed proved challenging. I was very grateful to Talus for their trust in me to move beyond the final digital mock-up and experiment with making the mountain scene visually different in most aspects.

Concluding Thoughts

This piece was one of my favorites and I plan to continue painting Idaho’s beautiful landscapes in the future.
